Mallika Sarabhai’s Unsuni, a cycle of five monologues, came to the capital last week. Based on Harsh Mander’s book, Unheard Voices, it celebrates hard-won triumphs of the human spirit. Stories of leprosy patients, street kids, the destitute. Many of the actors’ own lives mirrored those they were portraying. A boy from the slums who’s grown up with the theatre group; an adivasi girl whose uncle once served tea on the sets of one of Sarabhai’s films.
